bipolar

bipolar2010

Jed Feuer is your host as he leads the Bipolar quintet for an hour of strongly tailored arrangements and remarkable solos on tunes as wide-ranging as Bach's B minor Prelude to Cole Porter’s Night and Day. Bipolar draws from the most unusual and eclectic pool of source material to be used by any jazz quintet in the world.

BIPOLAR was born in July 2005 because one morning, unexpectedly, trumpeter Jed Feuer awakened with a fervent desire to lead a quintet. It occurred to him that his great friend, pianist Craig Swanson, might want to join him. Craig expressed enormous enthusiasm and they were off. Three more players and Bipolar would be born.

Saxophonist Stephanie Long, bassist David Ostrem, and drummer Barbara Merjan came aboard and that was it.

They met for a few rehearsals and it just clicked. It clicked in that way you hope will happen but usually doesn't. Within six weeks Bipolar was playing all over the New York City area and rehearsing to record their first CD, Euphrates, Me Jane which subsequently received unanimous raves (http://bipolarjazz.com/reviews/reviews.html).

BIPOLAR's aim is to demonstrate variety, energy, taste and almost always, departure from the norm. By spanning three centuries, they take a remarkably fresh look at some of the greatest music ever written.
