Madeline Kahn Tribute ~ Why Is Everyone Laughing?

Now in partnership with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, Hanna Burke is thrilled to reprise "'Why is Everyone Laughing?' A Tribute to Madeline Kahn", a benefit for Ovarian Cancer in honor of Madeline Kahn (and friends).

For her cabaret tribute to Madeline Kahn, “Why Is Everyone Laughing?” Hanna Burke received nominations for a Broadway World Award and the MAC Award for Best Female Debut. Writing for Cabaret Scenes, Joel Benjamin described “Why Is Everyone Laughing?” as “moving and entertaining in equal measure. A fine singer herself, Burke somehow found new and different facets of her own voice by infusing it with shades of Kahn’s eccentrically sweet soprano.”

In “Why Is Everyone Laughing?” Hanna offers a breathtaking collection of some of  the most memorable — and challenging — songs in Madeline Kahn’s wide-ranging repertory, including the dizzying “Never” from On the Twentieth Century, the runaway roller-coaster “Getting Married Today” from Company, “Down in the Depths (On the Ninetieth Floor)” from At Long Last Love, and the Kurt Weill parody “Das Chicago Song” from New Faces of 1968, as well as Madeline’s signature song, “I’m Tired” from Blazing Saddles. William V. Madison, author of Madeline Kahn: Being the Music, A Life, writes that, “I’ve attended every performance of ‘Why Is Everyone Laughing?’ and been thrilled to discover that Hanna  Burke possesses an uncanny ability to evoke Madeline while somehow making the material her own, and she brings down the house every time. She’s a star on the rise.”
