2013 MetroStar winner and Kansas native, Lauren Stanford, makes her solo cabaret debut with I'm a Stranger Here Myself.  Directed by Eric Michael Gillett, the piece explores New York City and why it continues to lure us here.  I'm a Stranger Here Myself pairs Lauren's own journey from Kansas to the big city through songs made famous by other small town women that came before such as Helen Morgan, Mary Martin, Julie Wilson, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, and more.

During The MetroStar Compeition Lauren was praised for having a “comic touch, deft and light” (Roy Sander) and “excellent focus, a marvelous storyteller” (Rob Lester).  Since the competition she has performed in the MAC award winning Amanda McBroom Project and her own solo theatre piece about singer Helen Morgan, More Than You Know

When performing his own solo cabaret show dedicated to Harold Arlen, the NY Times reported, "Mr. Gillett is known as a director with a special sensitivity to women. And several of his ladies, including Karen Akers, K T Sullivan and Karen Oberlin, were present to cheer him on. In each case Mr. Gillett has helped shape conceptual shows whose mixtures of song and talk fuse the personal and the historical into something more cohesive than a conventional set with patter; his shows, especially those for Ms. Akers, are turbulent emotional journeys of self-discovery."
