Emy sings in both Portuguese and English and is known for her music's relaxed vibe and sweet, wistful qualities. In NY ten years ago, she first heard the singers Luciana Souza and Paula Morelenbaum, fell in love with Brazilian music and decided to pursue it further. She subsequently studied with pianist Marcos Silva (Flora Purim & Airto) at the Jazz School in Berkeley, CA and bassist Nilson Matta (Trio da Paz, Yo-Yo Ma, Joe Henderson)
in New York and has traveled to Brazil to study the music and language.
Emy performs regularly in NY and DC, including DC's top venues such as Blues Alley, Twins Jazz and Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club. She has performed with some of NY'sforemost Brazilian and jazz musicians including Nilson Matta, Vanderlei Pereira (Toots Thielemans, Rosa Passos), and Hans Glawischnig (Chick Corea,
Miguel Zenon, Duduka da Fonseca).
