Brad McNett

Barely into his twenties, vocalist/composer, Brad McNett, is quickly becoming one of the most popular interpreters of the Great American Songbook. McNett’s large repertoire and his ability to interpret a lyric or turn a phrase with, the skill and poise of someone twice his age, makes him an instant smash with any audience. "There's a late-'50s sensibility in his voice—touches of Mel Torme and Frank D'Rone," according to Marc Myers of
McNett was first introduced to the music of the Great American Songbook at the tender age of ten and has since invested a full-force effort to take-in and learn as much as he can about the songs and the people who wrote them. Digging through vintage recordings, films, and sheet music has created his unique repertoire which features obscure and well know songs from such great composers as: Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, the Gershwins, Harold Arlen and Frank Loesser, to name a few. Blessed with a rich natural tone and drawing from such influences as: Audrey Morris, Blossom Dearie, Justin Hayford and Matt Dennis; Brad has developed an understanding of the lyric and a delivery well beyond his years. Put simply: “He gets it,” says Bob Perry of “The Penthouse” radio.
At the end of 2009 McNett released his debut EP, “Introducing: Brad McNett,” recorded with some of Detroit’s top musicians: The award winning Scott Gwinnell on piano, Jordan Schug on bass, and Jesse Kramer on drums. In addition to the musicians featured on the recording McNett has had the opportunity to perform with some of the best musicians around, such as: Johnny O’Neal, Claude Black, Clifford Murphy, Paul Keller, Michael Shea, RJ Spangler, and Steve Talaga. McNett has also taken the stage at some of the nation’s top venues, including: The Firefly Club (Ann Arbor, MI.), Murphy’s Place (Toledo, OH.), The Motor City Casino (Detroit, MI.), the Hard Rock Café (Boston, MA) and even the White House as part of the celebration of the National Christmas Tree lighting.
Aside from his own performances at various venues and events, Brad can be seen performing as the vocalist for the popular swing band, Rampage Swing, and can even be heard on their debut 2010 recording, “Stormin’ the Scene.” He also enjoys a working relationship with the national function band, Boston Swing, and is always working on new projects, so be sure to keep an eye out as “ [He] will be a talent in the industry for sometime to come.”
