Cassondra James

The holiday season is one filled with thoughts of home. For some, these thoughts include the warmth of friends and family; for others, the disappointment and loneliness of loss. In this, her own musical "homecoming", Cassondra reflects on the complexity of home and belonging, all while merging together the diversity of her musical homes - jazz, pop, gospel, r&b, classical, folk, and funk.

Born in the little town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Cassondra James (Kellam) has performed across the US and  Europe with artists such as Cory Henry, Christina Aguilera, Kim Burrell, Tituss Burgess, Laura Izibor, Gladys Knight, Brandy, and Wynton Marsalis. When she is not traveling, you can hear her performing jazz, funk, the blues, r&b, gospel, and even classical music in venues around the New York metropolitan area. She is currently working on an EP to be released in 2017, and is cast in the upcoming Broadway reading of Once on This Island.

In addition to these musical accomplishments, she also holds a Master's degree in theological studies from Drew University, and is a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where she is conducting research on stand-up comedy.
