Love & Sax ~ Pamela Winslow Kashani & Jerry Mandel

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Mingling the dulcet tones of Pamela Winslow Kashani and the sweet and jazzy sax stylings of Jerry Mandel, Love and Sax explores love in all its forms, from its wide-eyed beginnings through its foibles and struggles to its joyful conclusions, highlighting the great American songbook and beyond. Music directed by cabaret maestro Tedd Firth.

ABOUT PAMELA:
Pamela Winslow Kashani, a “statuesque blonde” with an “impressive range and powerful voice” created such varied roles as the original Rapunzel in Into the Woods on Broadway and Ensign McKnight on Star Trek: the Next Generation. Additional Broadway roles include Cinderella in Into the Woods, Lucille in Meet Me in St. Louis, and Babette (the feather duster) in Beauty and the Beast. Across the US, Pamela played leading ingénue roles and today portrays a vast array of leading ladies.  In addition to Star Trek, Pamela hosted Arts Coast to Coast for PBS and guest starred on other network shows. She shared her one-woman show across the US Change Happens and her CD of the same name can be found on cdbaby.com.

Pamela co-leads Apples and Oranges Studios, the theatre, film, television and digital production company with her husband Tim Kashani. Through their foundation Apples and Oranges Arts they recently launched THEatre ACCELERATOR to educate and develop new musical artists from the ground up.  As a composer, Pamela wrote the music and lyrics for the ethereal romantic comedy Higher Education, currently in development and set for a regional production this coming year. As a producer, she produced the Tony Award Broadway musicals Hair, Memphis and An American In Paris, which is now touring the US and playing in the West End.

ABOUT JERRY:
“How (Jerry) Mandel reinvented himself playing an instrument he hadn't touched in 35 years leaves you a little in awe.” Jerry Mandel has had an illustrious career in the Arts, holding esteemed positions of President of the Orange County Performing Arts Center and Vice Chancellor of University of California, Irvine.  Instead of retiring ten years ago, he brushed off his tenor sax, and through his passion and dedication to music has become a top player.

Jerry leads the Jerry Mandel Swingin’ the Standards Jazz Band. He’s performed in venues all over SoCal and NYC, including the Pageant of the Masters, Laguna Beach Live, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, the Great Park Summer series in Irvine, the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara, and in jazz and supper clubs all over the OC.  In New York City, he’s appeared at 54 Below, the Harvard Club, the New York Athletic Club, and numerous times in the W. 64th Street Jazz Series. “Mandel gives (one) hope that 70 will be the new 60.”
