Fresh off their festival tour of India this winter, the jazz duo AS IS returns to The Metropolitan Room on June 1st!
AS IS is kicking off their summer tour at The Metropolitan Room in support of their highly anticipated CD release, Here’s to Life, later this summer.  Recorded in NYC with Grammy-nominated producer, James McKinney, the album blends the duo’s signature intimacy with the talents of several special guest artists including drummer, Marcus Baylor; acclaimed saxophonist, David Binney; harmonica virtuoso, Gregoire Maret; bassist Rashaan Carter, vocalist Christie Dashiel and members of the Kennedy Center orchestra.
Alan Schulman is a noted jazz guitarist from Cincinnati, Ohio who studied with the late great guitarist Cal Collins (formerly of the Benny Goodman Orchestra) and has appeared with such noted jazz artists as Anita Baker, Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis & Michael Feinstein. A jazz vocal stylist, Stacey Schulman’s voice reminds the listener of both the distinctive character of Garland and the soaring emotion of Streisand.   A native of the New York City area, she has lent her signature sound to numerous radio commercials, television series and movie soundtracks. Together, the jazz duo has developed a reputation for their intimate interpretations of the Great American Songbook as well as re-arrangements of more contemporary Top 40 classics.
Deemed “nothing short of enchanting” by All About Jazz, the duo’s debut CD, A Love Like Ours, hit #1 on the Amazon jazz vocal charts in its first week of distribution and was featured on Jonathan Schwartz’s Great American Songbook broadcast on WNYC in New York City, NPR-affiliate, KASU’s Something Blue and the Oliver Sean international radio show across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.   The CD’s opening track, “Summertime” was the basis for the Global Lyme Alliance’s PSA campaign, which ran over 3500 times on radio stations across America in 2015.
Praise for AS IS and their debut CD:
“A Love Like Ours is nothing short of enchanting… The album’s fourteen-song lineup could have easily appeared on a Streisand, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett or Natalie Cole CD.  None of these performers could have delivered a more dynamic release.”
All About Jazz
“A Love Like Ours is elevated by meditative guitar work and sensitive collaborative chemistries.”
Marquis Global Network
“New York jazz duo AS IS ... one of the most played artists across commercial radio in the Indian subcontinent."
W.O.A. International
“Stacey & Alan make music for all the right reasons: the art (witness their individual talents), each other, and their fellow humans (profits support Lyme disease research) – making this meditative work one of the finest of its kind.”
