CAROL WOODS. A veteran of Broadway, music/cabaret, television and motion pictures, Carol has an international career spanning half a century. With Broadway credits that include The Full Monty, One Mo’ Time, Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, Smokey Joe’s Café, The Goodbye Girl, Tommy Tune directed Steppin’ Out, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, she is most widely known for her decades long run as Matron “Mama” Morton in Chicago The Musical. The winner of the 2017 BISTRO Awards Enduring Artistry Award and the 2017 MAC Celebrity Artist Award, she’s also an Olivier Award Nominee for her London performance in Blues in the Night, and the recipient of a standing ovation for her powerful rendition of Lennon and McCartney’s Let it Be at the 50th Grammy Awards ceremony.

She began her professional career in 1965 performing with a group known as Carol Woods and the Executives which led to an association with Ember Records and a number of disco/soul-themed recordings which can be found on the re-issued CD Carol Woods: Out Of The Woods. After a couple of years working in Europe where she befriended Freddie Mercury and sang back-up on some of his recordings, Carol returned to the states and began cementing her reputation as a “first-rate entertainer” with a stage presence that is “larger than life.”
Her television and screen credits include Across the Universe, Honeymooners, Stepping Out, Steam, Sweet and Lowdown, The Parent ‘Hood, The Practice, Third Watch, Law and Order and The Good Wife. Her steady and rewarding career also includes concert halls and nightclubs from New York to Tokyo. She has received outstanding reviews for her shows including her solo Carnegie Hall concert “An Evening with Carol Woods,” “From Blues to Broadway” and her most recent outing “Ain’t We Got Fun: The Music Of Richard A. Whiting.”
Along the way Carol has worked with the best in the business, shared her talent with countless causes and charities, all while relishing her role as mother and grandmother. Her latest release is entitled “Ain’t We Got Fun: The Richard Whiting Songbook” which was recorded live at the Metropolitan Room. Visit for more information.
