This year is Burton Lane’s 100th
The act will cover his career as a composer beginning with his success at M-G-M
as a motion picture songwriter of over thirty films leading up to his great triumph on Broadway with Finian's Rainbow
and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever
. The musical selections included in this show are songs written by Burton Lane with celebrated lyricists as Ira Gershwin, Frank Loesser, Harold Adamson, Ralph Freed, and of course, Alan Jay Lerner and E.Y. "Yip" Harburg. I will be accompanied by the fabulous Tom Nelson Trio. Tom Nelson is my musical director and pianist. Richard Barclay will direct the show.
Born in New York City, Richard grew up in the small town of Congers, New York, as the middle child in a family of nine. At an early age he became addicted to watching old films, especially the great Hollywood musicals. He studied music and drama at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts. In New York, he found success as an actor on such hit television series as The Sopranos
and Spin City,
and frequently appeared on All My Children
and One Life to Live.
Richard performed his cabaret act to enthusiastic audiences when, backed by the Tom Nelson Trio, he presented Richard Holbrook: The Untapped Fred Astaire,
Richard’s first CD is entitled Richard Holbrook Steps Out

This recording features several songs from his Astaire show and other selections by Portia Nelson, Ronny Whyte, and Kander & Ebb. Over the past several years, Richard has appeared at such popular Manhattan night spots as Don’t Tell Mama

. He has been a guest on the WOR Radio
programs - The Joe Franklin Show
and The Joey Reynolds Show
. Recently, Richard has successfully performed his cabaret act Richard Sings Burton - The Songs of Burton Lane
. This year, 2012, marks Burton Lane’s 100th
birthday and, as a special tribute to celebrate this occasion, Richard is very happy to be returning to The Metropolitan Room in August and September. The show is directed by Richard Barclay, and accompanied by the Tom Nelson Trio.
