John DiPinto & Mary Foster Conklin
2 Beverage Minimum
John DiPinto and Mary Foster Conklin return to the Metropolitan Room in August with DOWN FOR DOUBLE, another evening of duets. Tony Romano is on guitar, Skip Ward on bass, Willie Martinez on drums and percussion.
John will play accordion and piano when the mood strikes him. We'll be doing some new tunes, plus our favorite cool arrangements of the Beatles, Bacharach & David, the Foo Fighters, Fran Landesman, Bob Dorough, the Bobs, Smokey Robinson, Jon Hendricks/Count Basie and more. Good music and a good time will be had by all!
"A refreshingly newfangled vocal duo - too good not to share upon so thirsty a cultural climate." (Nitelife Exchange)
“They've tried out their material at the Renegade Cabaret above the Highline, to evident approval from the passing parade, and now they bring themselves indoors to see what happens. Plenty should.” (Village Voice)
"Conklin has the yummiest lower register and DiPinto is an imp on stage with a voice that seems to have no limits. Together they are friends making glorious music and inviting us in to enjoy it with them and you should!” (Cabaret Hotline)
John DiPinto and Mary Foster Conklin have appeared onstage together in various guises for the last twenty years. They began to experiment with vocal duets several years ago at the Caffe Vivaldi and The Metropolitan Room and perform regularly on various fire escapes as The Lady in the Red Dress and The Man in the Hat with the Renegade Cabaret.
