Innovative vocalist Jeanne Gies invites jazz masters Howard Alden, Sherman Irby, and Paul Gill for a night of sizzling swing and spontaneous exploration of jazz standards and original music.
Dubbed 'a pro' by Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein, JEANNE GIES is recognized by critics and musicians of the highest caliber for her full-bodied, emotionally expressive voice and distinctive phrasing. She has performed and recorded with a stunning array of jazz greats, including Howard Alden, Gene Bertoncini, Gerald Cannon, Joe Cohn, John Hicks, Sherman Irby, Willie Jones III, Romero Lubambo, Russell Malone, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Eric Reed. A prolific lyricist and song-writer, Gies has performed her work to great acclaim in England, Scotland, Germany, and France. The incomparable saxophonist SHERMAN IRBY is known for his uniquely textured sound and unrelenting swing. Irby has been recognized for his work with Roy Hargrove, Elvin Jones, and Papo Va'zques. He is currently a member of the distinguished Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under the direction of Wynton Marsalis. Jeanne Gies featured Irby on her highly regarded recording Mad About The Boy.
7-string guitar master HOWARD ALDEN is consistently recognized as an artist of astonishing virtuosity and originality. He is known for the sound-track of the Woody Allen movie 'Sweet and Lowdown', and has numerous recordings with jazz legends such as Benny Carter, Flip Phillips, Dizzy Gillespie and George Van Eps. Alden teamed with Jeanne Gies to produce her album 'Don't Think Twice', which is noted for the unprecedented gathering of eight jazz guitar greats.
Popular bassist PAUL GILL has lent his solid groove to Gary Bartz, Stanley Turrentine, Louis Hayes, John Hendricks, Diana Krall, and Elvis Costello, among many others.
