Avis's smoky voice and sophisticated style have captivated audiences worldwide.
At the invitation of maestro Gian Carlo Menotti, she became the first cabaret artist to perform at Italy?s legendary Spoleto Music Festival, and her elegance and panache have made her a must-see in New York?s most prestigious rooms, including Eighty Eight?s, The Russian Tea Room, Doubles at the Sherry-Netherland, Maxim?s, The Firebird, The Supper Club?s King Kong Room, Feinstein?s at the Regency, the Florence Gould Auditorium at Fiaf and the Jermyn Street Theatre in London.
A Parisienne by birth, Yanna Avis began her career as an actress. She received her training at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris, and has performed in a variety of classical and contemporary productions, including John Guare?s House of Blue Leaves and the Broadway hit Boeing-Boeing, as well as a number of films and plays on French television.
In 1992, Avis reinvented herself as a cabaret singer under the guidance of the late Colin Romoff and has recorded three albums. Her most recent one, Speak Love to Me, is a collaboration with the distinguished music director and pianist Lee Musiker.
Noted for her flawless technique, tongue-in-cheek delivery and playfully sultry sense of humor, Avis has made her mark on the cabaret scene with a continental repertoire that sizzles with joie de vivre.
