Dorien Staljanssens ~ Hugo’s Cousin
2 Beverage Minimum
Hugo’s Cousin (Dorien Staljanssens) is a singer-songwriter from Belgium. She was born in a small town called Bornem, where as a young child she first started playing piano, and later picked up the guitar and flute. She spent many years playing everything from classical to pop, and jazz to folk, before deciding one cloudy day, at the age of 25, that it was time to pour her effervescent musical ideas into her own original songs. Hugo’s Cousin performs in Belgium with a full band, but she has been playing as a solo act (vocals, guitar, and piano) in New York. “The Advantage of Loneliness” is a reflection of her personal life and shares some of the hard lessons she has had to learn. With a soft voice, catchy melodies, and refined rhythms, Hugo's Cousin creates a refreshing mixture of indie, pop and folk with her deeply felt and emotionally candid music.
