“Marcus Nance and Friends” is an elegant evening of jazz, cabaret, theatre and opera of the finest kind. As a fan of both the classy era of Johnny Hartman and Sarah Vaughan and the impressive showmanship of the opera and theatre worlds, Marcus Nance celebrates these traditions together in this regular series of cabarets featuring New York’s finest singers and musicians.
Marcus Nance has captivated audiences across Canada and the United States with his magnetic stage presence and lustrous bass-baritone voice. He is equally at home in theatre, opera, concert, and cabaret while setting the highest standards in each, vocally and theatrically. The New York Times described him as “a thrillingly powerful bass-baritone”, Backstage NY says he “has a bass that flows like melted butter” and the New York Post says his “bass voice resonates with silky menace”.
Marcus Nance is currently mesmerizing audiences on Broadway as Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar, a role he also performed at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Expanding further his creativity and artistic horizons, Marcus Nance made his film debut as the Singing Accountant in Mel Brooke’s feature film The Producers starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and his television debut in Beatrice Chancy. He has also moved into cabaret with appearances at the Metropolitan Room in New York City, the Stratford Summer Music Cabarets at the Church, the Elora Festival, Toronto’s Green Door Cabarets, the Toronto Jazz Festival and as a regular guest with the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra.
In 2009 he starred and hosted the cabaret series “Divos and Divas with Marcus Nance” at Statlers Piano Lounge in Toronto performing with guest stars such as Tony Award Nominee Louise Pitre, David Rogers of Phantom of the Opera fame and the incomparable opera diva Measha Brueggergosman.
