THE HIGHLAND DIVAS | MUSICAL CROSSROADS
Georgia Johnson, Margaret Kelly, and Marla Kavanaugh are a long way from home. Although these talented young women are enjoying careers that landed them in New York, they all hail from well outside of the Big Apple.

A MUSICAL CROSSROADS
Georgia, Margaret, and Marla are The Highland Divas: three women from different parts of the world, with diverse musical backgrounds and a common heritage. These uniquely talented artists will take you on a musical journey that spans the folk music of Ireland, Scotland, and New Zealand, and culminates in the soaring heights of Rock Opera. It is a journey from the most achingly spare Celtic ballads, to the most thrilling, harmonized interpretations of popular and classical music.

Georgia Johnson is an alumni of Glasgow’s prestigious Musical Theatre Course at Knightswood Secondary School, as well as a Scottish actress, singer, and dancer who moved to the US in 2004 when she was accepted with scholarship into The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. After graduating in 2006, she successfully landed the role of Orange Girl, in the 2007 national tour of Shout! The Mod Musical. Following that, she was offered the role of Sharon in the funny and successful off Broadway show Girls Night The Musical. A jack-of-all-trades in the performing industry, this well trained singer, dancer, and actress has been branded a “true triple threat” by some of Broadway and television’s top producers. In 2008, Georgia served as the first non-American USO girl for two years, performing for productions such as Dick Clarks’ New Years Rockin’ Eve Show. Performing to over 22.6 million viewers, she also sang the national anthem at New York’s City Field and various other patriotic events across the US. In 2012 she sang the national anthem for the NASDAQ ringing of the bell. Georgia is beyond delighted to be tuning back into her roots and joining the Highland Divas, singing the songs most true to her heart - the songs she was born to sing.

Margaret Kelly has wowed audiences in her native Scotland and in the United States with her stirring powerhouse voice that has been described as "cathartic." She received a scholarship to the prestigious AMDA in New York and established herself immediately in performing the role of Grizabella in three productions of Cats - The Musical, including the Broadway 25th Anniversary Tour, and procuring a Green card based on exceptional musical ability. After establishing herself as an artist to watch in Scotland, and recording and starring in multiple musicals, she sang the national anthem at the 10th anniversary commemoration of 9/11 in New York. Most recently, Margaret is proud to have performed on Broadway in The Minskoff Theatre 2012 Easter Bonnet Competition for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.

Marla Kavanaugh has captivated worldwide audiences with her angelic soprano. Originally from New Zealand, she is a critically acclaimed leading lady in opera and musical theatre. Marla sang in the Los Angeles Opera Gala welcoming Placido Domingo as Artistic Director. She starred in the post Broadway West Coast premiers of Terence MacNally's Masterclass and Paul Gordon's Jane Eyre. She has been a guest soloist with symphonies in New Zealand, The US, Japan, and The Netherlands. In 2004, she was humbled to be the soprano soloist in New York’s Central Park to commemorate the victims of 9/11. As a recording artist, she has been a guest on three albums with international tenor, Daniel Rodriguez, and her debut album “Songbirds”, with identical twin sister Marissa, is available worldwide. Marla is currently touring the US with the show Boy Meets Girl alongside Daniel Rodriguez.
