Stephen Hanks Presents New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits

With a show that is a perfect fit for holiday season and the winter ahead, Cabaret’s hottest series, New York Cabaret’s Greatest Hits (Producer, Stephen Hanks; Associate Producer Fr. Jeffrey Hamblin, MD), will feature Nightclub Singer/Entrepreneur Ellen Kaye with a reprise of her hit 2010 show, Ice Wine: Songs For Christmas and Dark Winter Nights, at the Metropolitan Room on Tuesday, December 13 at 7 pm. Kaye’s show will be the 16th presentation in the series, which launched in August, 2015 at The Metropolitan Room.
In Ice Wine, Kaye navigates both the dark and lighter side of life, genre bending as she digs into material from the best of the 20th and 21st centuries’ songwriters including: Tom Waits, Annie Lennox, Dar Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Rickie Lee Jones, among others. Kaye’s Musical Director/Guitarist is Ethan Fein, with Lawrence Feldman on Reeds and supported by the LiveIt!LIVE Band. “An amazing singer and entertainer . . . with a cool, raspy, bluesy voice . . . this gal rocks,” raved Cabaret Hotline after Kaye performed the show at the Metropolitan Room.
After she released a CD of Ice Wine in 2011, Rob Lester of the website Talkin’ Broadway wrote: “Ellen Kaye is a confident singer who can wail or croon and who, notably, is unafraid to explore and linger in blues territory. If you've already overdosed on the peppy holiday songs of forced glee, with sugarcoated versions of life, something grown-up, upfront, laid-back or a back-to-reality trip may be just what's needed as an antidote. Drown your sorrows the Kaye way with a serving of Ice Wine, in or out of season.”

Ellen Kaye is a founder of LiveIT!LIVE, the new nonprofit growing live music everywhere. With her partners Seth Goldman and Ethan Fein she owned Moscow 57, the live music venue on Delancey Street.  Kaye, who possesses a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker’s sense of humor, irony, and outrage, was born in the nooks and crannies of The Russian Tea Room, which her family owned in the restaurant’s heyday from 1947 to 1996. Her singing career took off when she was booked at the original Monkey Bar for two years. Ellen was a part of the Tea Room’s often mentioned and much-missed cabaret series. Since then, Kaye has performed in some of New York City's most prestigious rooms, including Town Hall and Carnegie Hall (with the New York Pops), as well as appearing regularly at the noted jazz club The Iridium, the Metropolitan Room, Sugar Bar, and LaMama ETC., as well as at the Bearsville Theater Lounge in Woodstock, The Silo in Connecticut, and venues in New Orleans and Washington, DC.  Ellen was co-producer and co-host of “M57 Straight From Delancey,” a 14-episode weekly radio show broadcast on WVOX-AM, and has been featured and interviewed on radio programs across the country, including those on PRI, WNEW, WNYC and WVOX/WRTN, where she also hosted The Ellen Kaye Show.
