The iconoclastic British singer Barb Jungr is days away from returning to theMetropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, with her widely acclaimed all-Bob Dylan show. “Man in theLong Black Coat” plays the club’s first theatrical run, a three-week prime time engagement meant to bridge with rock and theatre audiences less familiar with nightclub entertainment.

“Man in the Long Black Coat” performs a total of 15 times on three consecutive Tuesdays through Saturdays, April 10 to 28. On Saturdays April 14 and 21 the Metropolitan Room welcomes a short list of Dylan experts who will trade Dylan stories with Barb in the club’s lounge. The 45-minute pre-show “Fireside Chats” will begin at 8pm (show times on the Saturdays is 9:30pm; the rest of the nights are at 7pm). The first 30 guests to use the code DYLANCHAT when ordering online are invited to attend the chats free of charge.

Participating in the chats are Dylan authors David Hajdu (“Positively 4th Street”), Howard Weiner (“Tangled up in Tunes”) and Q 104’s rock DJ Ken Dashow.

Best-known for her eye-opening deconstructions of songs by American rockers, Jungr has been attracting growing international attention for boldly adding new names to the Great American Songbook, names like Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, David Byrne, Neil Diamond, Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. And Bob Dylan. By stripping these songwriters’ of their recorded accoutrements, the British singer lays them bare, proving that many of these rockers are not a breed apart from predecessors like Gershwin,Kern, Mercer and Berlin.

When “Man inthe Long Black Coat” premiered in October, the NY Post called it “revelatory,”The Wall Street Journal called it “cosmic,” and The New York Times said the act, “landed with an explosion.” The show was Time Out NY’s #1 top live cabaret act for 2011.
