JAZZ INNOVATOR SHARON CLARK PREMIERES “THEN… AND AGAIN” IN MET ROOM MAJOR ENGAGEMENT

DC’s remarkable jazz vocalist Sharón Clark returns to the Metropolitan Room for five nights from June 9 to 22, backed by the Chris Grasso Trio. In “Then… and Again,” Clark pairs songs with common themes from dramatically different sources.

This is Clark’s fifth Met Room engagement, and her latest collaboration with music director Chris GrassoTheir last show “Blame it on My Youth” was called “new and amazing… an absolute triumph,” by Will Friedwald of The Wall Street Journal.  Writing in The NY Times, Stephen Holden said, “You can’t underestimate the transformation of what seems like an ordinary song when an interpreter like Sharón Clark tears it apart and looks inside.”

In “Then… and Again” Clark makes strange bedfellows of Count Basie and The Beatles, Irving Berlin and The Bee Gees, Cole Porter and Jimi Hendrix, among others.
The Chris Grasso Trio features Lenny Robinson on drums and Eric Wheeler on bass

Clark is just coming off an extensive multi-city tour of Israel and Russia, where she is a major concert draw. A winner of the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition and the American Traditions Competition, Clark appears regularly in DC at Blues Alley, and at the Mandarin Oriental.
A featured soloist with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, and the Baltimore Symphony, Clark has headlined the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, the Cape May Jazz Festival and the Savannah Music Festival where she earned the festival’s Gold Medal.
